White Stripes rock legend Jack White has lashed out at the internet calling it the enemy of music and ‘in direct opposition to the art of music being treated with respect.’
The Deadweather mastermind said that he is still living and working as if there is no internet.
Jack, 35, has gone to great lengths to record using anachronistic studio equipment and that the migration of music online has lead to it becoming a soundbite.
He said: “In my head, I’m still living and as if there is no internet and treat it as a nuisance.
“The internet can be a beautiful tool for many things, but it is in direct opposition to the art of music being treated with respect and delivered to the majority in a tangible way.
“The enemy of music right now is the internet. As every day passes music is more and more looked at as a soundbite and a trifle.
“The internet disperses crowds, maybe a positive side effect of this is that individuality is promoted in a way.
“But after reading about three words of someone’s comment at the bottom of an internet article, I turn off.
“Maybe one day, people will figure out the power of the written word. It’s a powerful thing.”
