Karen Elson has tried to step out of the all encompassing shadow of her rock star husband Jack White by releasing her own unique album entitled, The Ghost Who Walks.

The gothic chic super model started life on the industrial streets of Oldham and ended up gracing the glamorous runways of Paris and New York. “I’ve lived a surreal life” She jokes.

Having been inspired onto music by PJ Harvey as a teenager after watching her video for Down by The Water, she says she often dealt with the difficulties in her life through the therapeutic craft of writing songs.

“I’ve been writing songs for years- pages and pages filed with crap, to be honest, but that was my way of dealing with things.”

Now Elson is ready to let everybody into her dark, macabre world.

However, the model come singer is acutely aware of her husband’s reputation in the music industry as she says, “I know that everyone will assume that Jack wrote the album for me.”

However Jack has taken a back seat for the most part and has only helped in the production side of things for his missus. The core sound, the alluring weirdness and the morbid lyrics are all a part of her own vision and her own identity.

The album is a triumph and it’s safe to say Elson has distinguished herself as an artist in her own right, no longer to be referred to just as Jack White’s wife.
