So, Zane Lowe has recently been broadcasting accolades of pure unbridled love for Liverpool band Sound Of Guns, describing them as ‘British rock and roll from the heart’ as well as labelling their debut EP Elementary Of Youth as his Hottest Record In The World on his Radio 1 show. Steve Lamacq too, has been getting involved in the love-in, featuring them as his new favourite band on his 6music show.
Colour us impressed.
Sound Of Guns have now announced the release of their new single Alcatraz on 8th March through Distiller Records, so you can soon get your happy mitts on a slice of the action.
Available on 7†and digital download, Alcatraz is the first track to be released from their forthcoming album, out later this year, having been busy in the studio with renowned producer/mixer Chris Potter (The Verve/U2).
Straying wisely away from ‘the Liverpool sound’ that plagues the majority of Liverpool bands who make it mainstream, Sound Of Guns have chosen raw anthemic power chords over jingle-jangle guitars and riot-ridden gang vocals over the usual deliberately quirky lyricisms.
Having blistered through the ranks via BBC Introducing last year, the band have experienced many highlights including four performances at Glastonbury, a main stage performance at Latitude, featuring at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and supporting a string of dates with Adam Green to rapturous audience applause. The band also opened Liverpool Music Week and performed at the inaugural Dubai Sound City.
Colour you impressed? You can also catch them live at The Masque, Liverpool were they’re performing as part of the NME awards show this Friday, February 19th.
