We want to be constructive with our feedback here – Flight Of The Conchords ‘Other rappers diss me, say my rhymes are sissy…’ style – but Lord save us, we can’t. Sorry, but This City – your rhymes are sissy.
It’s not that This City are a bad band, they sound like they’ve spent long enough learning to play their instruments in a angsty, pleasing manner, and it all sounds the part, blah, blah, blah, snore. But that’s just the problem – Black And Blue is not a standout. It doesn’t rattle you out of your little skull, or stay in your head for longer than it needs to. It turns up, it emo’s, it leaves.
Hmm.
Okay, here we go – constructive feedback then, if you want to produce something that will help you rise above the ranks of your average preen haired, guitar blazing, boo-hoo band, then stop sounding exactly like the scores of average preen haired, guitar blazing, boo-hoo bands out there. It’s just like my girl, Alanis used to say back in the day ‘It’s like 10’000 spoons when all you need is a knife…’ – you get me? Sound.
Develop a personality. Attempt your own sound. Acknowledge that you’re in a bloody box – step outside of it – and then come back to us with something worth a decent whack of 3 minutes.
