With three stages, numerous tents, secret areas and a nightclub in a cowshed, Standon Calling has developed a reputation for supporting the best new bands and DJs.
Offering a platform to emerging artists, while giving festival-goers a chance to see their favourite bands in an intimate, sponsor-free setting.
There is something for everyone amongst the eclectic roster, from the soaring soul of Alice Russell to the upbeat electro-pop of Casiokids, to the global vibes of Gilles Peterson, and a host of this year’s most hotly anticipated acts including Fool’s Gold, Sleepy Sun and Silver Columns.
This year’s theme, ‘Murder on the Standon Express’, will revolve around a central hub of crime and an intricate recreation of Baker Street, featuring winding alleys of houses and shops where you will find a host of characters brought to you by interactive theatre pioneers, The Heritage Arts Company.
Delve deeper into the lair of crime and intrigue and stumble upon Sweeney Todd’s shop offering wet shaves, Dr Sketchy’s burlesque life drawing, Salena Godden’s Book Club Boutique, the Baker Street Bakery and workshops from former Masterchef winner and Wahaca founder Thomasina Miers. This year’s site will turn into a real-life set as artists and actors mingle with festival-goers.
Those who need a late-night live music fix or fancy something a bit different will enjoy The Great Brain Robbery. They’ve got music from Finnish three-piece Cleaning women, the Rotten Hill Gang featuring the former guitarist of the The Clash, Mick Jones, Hook and The Twin, Hooligan Night, alongside the burlesque of Roxy Velvet and La Scarah.
